How to force unsupported speed?

Hello!

I bought some DVD-RW media (platinum). There is an information on them that they are capable of 4x speed writing. Unfortunately - my Plextor PX-760A only sees them as 2x speed media.

On Liteon drives it was possible using Omnipatcher to change write strategy for certain media.

Is it possible on Plextor drives?

I have the latest firmware installed.

Check the Plextor compatibility listing. The CMC DVD-RW is 2x media and will only write at 2x in the 760. That’s fixed in the drive firmware and you cannot change it.

I’m pretty sure CMC 4x -RW media is CMCW03

Others have posted such info too.
Seems that these RWs are a misprint…

I think you’re right, but that seems unbelievable. I’ve checked this Platinum DVD-RW discs and all my devices, including Sony RDR-HX710 standalone DVD writer - recognise them only as 2x media…

Here is scan of one of that fake 4x Platinum DVD-RW, just for the information.

“DVD Format MINUS”. That’s the very first time i see that ‘dash’ of “DVD -R” written out in acutal words on a disk!

Also is the “DVD”-logo at the lower left missing a “TM” at it’s lower right and and “RW” immediately below it or not?
On Verbatim and Panasonic media i have there is a “TM” at the said position and an “R” below the logo to indicate it’s a recordable media. One would expect a RW here to indicate rewritable media.

This is what it should look like: http://www.dvdfllc.co.jp/pdf/DVD-Application-Logo.pdf

Could be fake media or ‘black’ media produced without the royalties due …

That’s my suspiction too. I will try to contact the distributor and if I get any reply - I will put it here

Thanks for all comments

Hello, i have the same problem I guess! Did anyone found any new info on where the illegal Platinums come from? I can post a pic from my disc if needed
