Well, the CD that burned when my sys locked-up seemed to have the correct amount of files and file sizes but it didn't work. I reburned it successfully. Disc3 is a problem.
I acknowledge that the process may not work for everone.
I may just be out of luck.
Please see what I did below and advise.
Could not installing DirectX9.0b cause me to not get anything but the initial splash screen when I attempt to play?
I've uninstalled CloneCD, deleted the profiles and folders that the uninstall procedure leaves behind.
And I've deleted two entries in the registry which remain for CloneCD after I've uninstalled it.
I tried using Alcohol to HIDE ATAP and I've tried to play without using Alcohol.
TDK 24x10x40x CD-RW Drive is the only optical drive I'm using.
The last "x" is significant to the modle #.
My video card is garbage, PNY Vanta 16MB.
It doesn't support DirectX9.0b shaders.
I COPIED Disc1 and Disc3 as instructed.
I copied the other discs to images using the same procedure with Alcohol but burned those images with CloneCD rather than Alcohol, since using Alcohol with safedisc selected was not indicated for Discs2, 4 and 5.
I noticed that Aray did NOT indicate any protection on Disc3.
Just the same, I followed your instructions to create an image with Alcohol and to burn the image with CloneCD.
Alcohol had no "By Pass EFM Error" to untick as your instructions indicated.
I'm using Alcohol 120% 1.9.2 (Builld 1705)
I'm using CloneCD 220.127.116.11
I placed CDFreaks Profiles in the CloneCD Profiles folder.
There is a Protected CD Game profile in the folder.
However, it does NOT display in CloneCD as a possible selection.
Therefore, I selected Protected CD and modified the settings as you indicated.
Installation with Disc Copies
Discs 1, 2, 4 and 5 install successfully.
The Copy of Disc3 runs forever.
The progress bar does advance very slowly.
It reads the Sounds.pak file forever.
The CD-RW drive reads/LED flashes constantly when it first reads Disc3 COPY.
After a long while it flashes only intermittently.
It later, again, flashes constantly.
A long time later I get the following error:
Error 1335. The cabinet file 'Data2.cab' requuired for this installation is corrupt and cannot be used.
This could indicate a network error, an error reading from the CD-ROM, or a problem with this package.
Perhaps I should try to make another back-up of Disc3.
I clicked to "Try Again" with Disc3 (COPY).
The progress bar went to the end but I got the same error.
I removed the Disc3 COPY and inserted the Disc3 (ORINGINAL) and clicked "Try Again" which worked.
The copies of Disc4 and Disc5 worked.
When the installation was over, I got a blue screen that wanted a disc with a specific serial number.
That turned out to be my COPY of Disc1.
Playing The Game (Attempting to)
I did not install DirectX9.0b.
It IS required for the game but my video card does not support it.
If I start the game from the Dics1 COPY from the menu or from the desktop shortcut or from the pop-up menu when the disc is inserted, I get the splash screen.
The splash screen either stays there for a short time or an incredibly long time.
The CD drive isn't doing any reading.
<Ctrl> <Alt><Del> shows nothing special running.
If I use the ORIGINAL Disc1, the initial splash screen is displayed for a short time, disappears and no further progress is made.
With Disc1 COPY OR Original, I can launch the game over and over again any which way but get no further than the splash screen.
