How secure is E-Verify, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) electronic employment eligibility program outsourced to Law Logix. The US Immigrations and Customs Enforcement, part of DHS, and the Social Security Administration collaborate in this program to verify employee eligibility to legally work in the United States. Basically, the employee within three days after accepting a job with an employer who participates in E-Verfiy, must complete an I-9 Form Employment Eligibility Form and present accepted documents to their employer. The employer then uses E-Verfiy system to validate the employee’s eligibility. DHS, ICE and SSA databases are queried to confirm the employee is legally employable. The online service is provided by Law Logix, who’s Terms of Service, has a Disclaimer Warranty stating that users of their service accept ‘sole risk’. Social Security Numbers, and other personal identity data are being electronically shared by federal agencies through a third party who disclaims any risk. How secure is E-Verify?
