How long does a Kproble test take and other noob questions

I just got my new LiteOn 812S drive a few days ago, and I want to run some kprobe tests, but even after reading the guide I don’t understand how to do it. So here are a few questions:

  1. How long does a kprobe test take?
  2. Are you supposed to test media before or after it’s burned?
  3. what does kprobe really tell you about your LiteOn burner?

thanks.

  1. That depends on the scan speed and the size of the disc used. When doing a fill disc at 4x for example, it should not take too long. I don’t know exactly, but a 10-12 minutes should do the trick.

  2. The tests we run here are made after they are burned. This yields as a result the readability (expressed in various values, as the P0/PI values) of the disc.

  3. About your burner? Not that much. You can draw nice conclusions from it though. Burn a disc, scan it at certain settings (visit our Media forum for that) and compare the results with IE the same media burned on different burners.

Good luck… and let us know if it works out!
