How good is the LG burners? is LG similar to LITEON? thanks.

LG is pretty good and their newest 40X writer is actually the fastest 40X writer availible.

But for reliability and program compatibility I really don’t know.

And it seems like the media compatibility is a bit worse compared to Lite-On.

You could try (at your own risk of course) to hex edit the firmware available for the 48 speed writer.

I have the LG CGE 8160B 16x10x40.

Excellent drive. Tom’s hardware recommeds them for overburning.

Nero works fine. It handles 99 minute cd-r’s right up to the very outer edge. Even Plextors can’t do that from what I’ve been reading here. Plexy’s seem to max out at 95 minutes.

CloneCD works fine too.

I’ve never had a media problem with cd-r and the LG. I did get a bad batch of Memorex 4X cd-rw’s, but that has nothing to do with the drive. It was just lousy discs.

I highly recommend LG drives.

It handles all forms of Safe disc with ease too.

Buy an LG drive with the 'B" at the end of the model. You will not go wrong.
