How can I update firmware for NEC 3540A connected to a laptop

I am new to this forum. Please don’t grill me if I have posted it on the wrong one.

I have a laptop (Dell Latitude) with a NEC 3540A enclosed in a USB box and I am thinking of applying Liggy’s firmware for this DVD burner. But I believe it will not work sicne the burner is now seemed as an USB drive by system. Is there any way that I can apply the update to this DVD burner?

Your help is greatly appreciated.

Remove Nec 3540 from USB enclosure. Take to friends computer and flash firmware. Return Nec 3540 to USB enclosure. Enjoy!

I have flashed a few drives through USB with no problem. It is possible it will work with binflash.

Thank you very much for your help. I will try to update the firmware using another computer. I assume the version of OS shouldn’t matter. Right?

Not as long as it is a Windows operating system.

I flash all the time with a usb connection. Use Bin Flash as was suggested.

Firmware and firmwareflashing is OS independent.

Note. Liggy’s binflash will run under Mac, Linux and M$ Windoze.
