With the method I described you can use the chapter select feature to first select a particular chapter where the scene you want resides, then you would move the start/end sliders to isolate that particular scene.
I use this method to remove scenes from various DVDs. They have been as short as 15 seconds or so. I noticed when doing this that I'm working with a resolution of about 14 frames.
Once this clip is selected, I usually just back it up to a folder. when I open the folder I'll find a VIDEO_TS, a VIDEO_TS_.BUP, a VTS_01_0, and a VTS_01_1.
The last scene I removed was from the movie "Aliens". I removed the portion where the space marines are getting ready to drop to the planet's surface. The scene was just a bit longer than "We're on an express elevator to hell, going down! wooohoo!" About 10 or 15 seconds.
