What media is it and which speed setting do you use ?

hi.m8 i have used few of each of these
datasafe x4 ritek media,
verbatim x4 media,
grade a orange tangos x4 media

i have used speed settings of
x4
x8
maximum

all are taking between 25 mins-30 mins to burn 1 movie

i thought x8 dvd writer would take less than 15 mins…

thanxs again

Well, normally it’d take like 15-22’ for a DVD writer to burn the 4x rated discs @4x.

Check the IDE cables, jumpers etc…is DMA enabled ?
What’s your configuration ?

I experienced this problem…

around 28 mins to write a dvd is actually 2.4x

15mins is 4x and i presume (don’t have 8x writer) is around 8 mins.

Now i use a different program to write as clonedvd is far too slow.

If i write at 4x it takes 28 mins, if i read at max it takes 20 or so mins but the films are very dark, using pioneer 106D and ritekg.04 media.

how do i check these

Check the IDE cables, jumpers etc…

as am still new to dvd writing…

Of course, these forums emplore freedom of speech…

You can use any program, ie i use what i have free and at the moment that’s the new copytodvd 3 :D, but you could use nero, or any other program you have that came with your burner or software you’ve bought…

i have nec 2500 8x it is taking average 25-30 mins to burn a full movie…which should only take 8-15 mins to burn…i use clone dvd…which is the reason i think where the problems lie… which fastest burning softwares do u use…how long does it take on your x8 dvd writer
let me know

not with you bo?where are these.how do i go on doing these…

Check the IDE cables, jumpers etc…is DMA enabled ?
Are the HDD & the writer on the same IDE channel - e.g. PM & PS ?
If yes, you need to set the DVD-recorder on the Secondary IDE channel, e.g. as SM.

Well, download NeroInfoTool_207.zip, run it and tell us what you got there :

assuming you’re actually burning at 8x (which i have doubts about), are you having buffer underruns? 8x shouldn’t take anywhere near 15 min if everything is going smoothly.

1x = 60 min
2x = 30 min
4x = 15 min
8x = roughly 8-10 min (depending on write strategy)

are you using media that’s supposed to burn at 8x?

thank u for that information bo

see next post for my information

my dvd writer is not set as master does it matter.

take a look at my information…

thank you again

always there to help

There is something DEFINITELY WRONG with CloneDVD regarding recording speed.

I have the same issues, i have beeing writing for months at 4X and sometimes at 8X on all kind of discs with my Pioneed 107D in a lot of diferent software and recording times are right, if i use the same media and try to set recording speed in CloneDVD to 4X, 8X, 2.4X or max, it take always the same time burning the DVD, about 27 mins.

I am talking about CloneDVD2 SneakPreview. (When i last tried CloneDVD(1) y had a Pioneer 106D and recording speed setting was good).
I am using the 1.10 hacked firmware.
My burner is Secondary-Slave/ DMA Enabled.

And this is NOT a DMA/ IDE cable/ channel alike problem, cause ALL other software recording speed setting is simply perfect (even in software not oficially supporting 107D).

Greets!

As you can see here, all the above mentioned media is 4x rated.
Even if you choose the 8x speed setting,
this cannot guarantee that your burner will be able of burning it @higher that the rated speed.
See, some 4x DVDR media can be burnt @8x, most not :

Drive Type = DVD DUAL
Disc Type = DVD+R (Single Layer)
Disc MID = 52 49 54 45 4B 00 00 00 (RITEK…)

Once again, when it comes to the 4x writing, your time of 25- 28’ is very common :

Résumé : If you’re into the speed and in order to fully enjoy your drive’s speed capability,
you’d need to :

 1. upgrade the writer with the latest firmware to enhance the media write compatibility

 2. buy 8x media to certainly get faster speeds.

Try playing a lil’ w your configuration and see how it works best.

The NEC site must have their support. Also there’s info @ NEC Forum

Buy 8x media.

do i need to have my dvd writer as master ?

and my cd writer as slave?

what difference would it make?

thank you
