This time it was a Scotia Bank ad. They are mixed in with the articles.
I must be a lucky man. Thanks to CC’s host files and uBlock I have yet to see one intrusive ad… yet. So kudos to CC. More people like him are needed.
From my understanding of hosts file…

Anything before ***.maliciousdomaing.org will be blocked as well as long as it matches the domain name maliciousdomain.org.
No, only specified hostnames are valid; domain names are interpreted as host names only-

Example:

0.0.0.0 maliciousdomain,org # Using blackhole
127.0.0.1 maliciousdomain.org # Using loopback

This will match only the host maliciousdomain.org but will NOT match e.g. www.maliciousdomain.org

That is absolutely correct :iagree:

@ coolcolors
The Hosts file format is not very flexible:
IP FQDN {Alias (not widely used) or #Comment}.

Hosts is defined in RFC 952 which was later updated in RFC 1123 and its companion RFC 1122 and these were in turn partly updated…

Now they may be hard to read technical as they are, but a great easy read can be found in the manual pages for Linux concerning hosts.

I read somewhere last week that if you visit a website with a popup that tells you to disable adblockers, that all you have to do is click the “X” button to stop loading the page. This allows access apparently. I’ve been waiting all week to try this, but haven’t come across such a website, so I can’t remember where I got this info.

Maybe someone here knows a website that does it so we can try it?
