HLDS GCC-4481B won't write

Fails to write imation CD-R, imation DVD-RW (4 speed) (no disc present or full), TDK DVD+R (1-16 speed)
Using Windows Explorer

Computer HP Compaq DC7100
Windows XP Pro (Version 2002) SP3
CD/DVD - HL-DT-ST GCC-4481B
Driver - MS 01/07/01 5.1.2535.0

I see that HP have a driver update notice out -
http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/genericSoftwareDownloadIndex?lc=en&cc=us&softwareitem=pv-28110-1
but it needs to write to CD (not working!) or a floppy (don’t have one)

I don’t know much about CD/DVDs - they’ve always just worked for me in the past  I’m trying to do a backup of someone else’s computer.

Cheers

John

CD-R error message after 10 mins (final stage?) - “There was an error in the writing process. The disc you have attempted to write may no longer be usable.”

The same CD-R works fine in my Optiarc DVD RW AD-7540A.

The shop was out of CD+R discs, so I haven’t tried those.

Welcome to CD Freaks.

The drive is only a combo drive, so it can read and write to CD-R(W), but only read DVD media. That’s why your blank DVD media is failing.

Try using the program ImgBurn and see if the same issue occurs. If it does, try a different brand of CD-R, like a small pack of Verbatim, Maxell, or Sony media.

And last, CD+R discs don’t exist.

[BTW, your post is OK here; don’t worry about it not being in the LG forum].
