HL-DT-ST GSA-4167B disk reading problem (LG GSA-4167B)

[qanda]This thread is about the LG GSA-4167B. Click here to see full specs[/qanda]My problem is that my cd/dvd drive is not reading a disk which I had burnt stuff on it ages ago, last week when I acessed the disk it was working fine, but today when I tried to acess it, the standard message of The disk inserted is corrupted or is in a format not recognised by windows.

If it helps the disk type is Imation DVD-RW 4x. Also I am running XP SP2.

Try the disc in another drive to see if the disc works.
I also don’t think that it’s a good idea to have rewritable media for long time storage.

I have only the 1 cd/dvd drive on my comp. Awhile ago this happened to another disk and I tried it on another computer and it came up with the same message. Also the DVD has only had data on it for only a couple of months.

There’s a fair chance the disc has just gone bad. For RW, I always use Verbatim - and as vroom said, RW discs are no good for keeping stuff on long-term.
