Hi,
I have a HL-DT-ST DVDRRW GWA-4164B…I got it with my Pc…
Now I have a problem.
The DVD burner doesn’t burn DVD :Z
My firmware version is 1.|0
What can I do?

#2

Who says it wouldn’t burn on DVD?

This drive is GWA, means OEM!

#3

Hi,

Contact support department of your PC manufacturer, if you are still under warranty.

Michael

#4

Well…I have been changing things in the Bios and it is working again…but now I can’t read the DVD’s

#5

Can you describe in detail what you did to try burning DVDs? What software (even version) and what discs (brand/speed)? You didn’t give any details, so we don’t anything to work on.

#6

I tryed burning an image with:
Nero 6.6.1.4
Memorex disks @ 8x speed

#7

And what was the exact error???

Memorex dvd media is crap, by the way.

#8

At the end of a burn Nero will offer the option of saving the log file. Do this & then post the log back here, otherwise there’s very little that we can do to help.

As chef points out Memorex media is of questionable & varying quality. That’s a less offensive way of saying crap.

#9

Sorry…I looked wrong…the disks are Arita disks…my cd’s are from Memorex…
Anyway…I’ll post a log as soon as I burn a DVD

#10

Oh yes, please edit the log before posting and remove your Nero serial numbers. Or else unscrupulous people can just steal them for use on their copies of Nero!

#11

Arita DVD - are they G04 discs, rated at 4x maybe?

#12

Here’s the log
I crossflashed my GWA-4164B to a GSA-4166 1.02 btw

#13

Use other media.

#14

I tryed a Samsung dvd but he couldn’t burn that dvd too…

#15

Samsung isn’t a good media, either.

If in doubt, try some Verbatim media - you can buy them in single jewel cases if you only want to test your drive.

#16

If I remember correctly, Arita = B or C grade Ritek. With Ritek’s current quality control, that means those are probably beyond horrible. Samsung is also horrible. Hint : Korean branded media generally=junk.

Sorry mate, but you somehow managed to pick three kinds of awful media to use.

Arachne’s suggestion of Verbatim is sound, although I’d get hold of some DVD+RW discs instead since you are doing all these test burns. That way if the burn fails, you can just erase the disc and reuse it. Verbatim or Ricoh branded DVD+RW should be fine.

Are you running any CD/DVD protection defeating software on your system that runs in the background? From your logs it looks like you may have a few virtual drives, although I am not sure. I asked because those types of software can interfere with burning. If you are running those things, disable them before trying to burn.
