HL-DT-ST DVDRAM GSA-H40N
okay, here is the thing.
until 1 week ago i had no problems at all burning mp3, data, music, or cd.iso’s, or DVD’s.
suddenly i cannot burn or read anything to a CD. although i am still able to burn and read to a DVD.
I have read numerous threads regarding this issue on this site and others… but to no avail.
any help with this would be much appreciated

Hi and Welcome!

if the CD part fails, then there might be a hardware failure of the drive. To rule out other issues (mostly software related), please get a bootable CD and try to boot your computer from that disc.
You may have to change the boot order or invoke a boot menu, see your computer or motherboard manual for details.

Your laser is half dead. No solution, apart from buying a new drive.
R.I.P ? Waoww… It work only 1 year…
Unfortunately, modern drives are cheap stuff. Quality and longevity is not on the task list of the manufacturers.
Is the drive still covered by any warranty?

Which brand you advise me?
Depending on the interface (Pata/IDE or Sata), I’d recommend Optiarc AD-720xA (Pata/IDE) or AD-724x (Sata) at the moment.
