Welcome to the forum

When you say the drive can’t recognise DVDs - is that blank DVD media, pressed (commercial) DVDs, or both?

Can you try the drive in another computer?

Also, take a look in Windows Device Manager and see if there are any yellow exclamation marks (!) next to any of the components.

If your Vista DVD is bootable, you may try to boot from that too (remember to make your DVD drive the first Boot Device in your PC’s BIOS first).

If that doesn’t work, open it up & use a low-residue lens cleaning solution/kit & manually clean the lens before before trying it in a PC again.
(You’ll already have it out.)
Hopefully, it isn’t dying from normal wear & tear.
If so, they run about $35 US. I have the same one. Lens cleaning brought mine back to life after 2-3 yrs. of medium-heavy usage.
We’ll keep our fingers crossed for you.
