Companies have long over eggagerated the lifespans of OPTICAL media… this is no different and there are already similar non-organic dye versions of optical media already in production let alone development. some of the first commercial CD_Rs used a metalic-polycarbonate blend in the 1-2x generation… by the time 4x+ rolled around it was organic dyes… this brought disc volumes up and price all the way down to fractions of a penny per disc.
