I have my S223Q(the only SATA device in my system) on a foxconn nforce4 amd a64 3200 s939 w/ xp home sp3 and it worked perfectly(including lightscribe) for burning a couple of dozen dvd-r’s(although it showed up in the safely remove hardware list along with my USB printer).
Then all of a sudden it froze my pc and upon reboot disappeared from the computer completely, even the BIOS. I moved it to another SATA port and it worked again for burning a few more disks then it disappeared again.
My conclusion is either the drive has went bad or it is killing my SATA ports somehow.
I think I found a solution, especially since the drive has been working flawlessly again for several burns now. I found a nf4 registry hack to disable the removable nature of the drive.
I also finally got a hint at what could be causing the freezing and disappearing when I got an program not responding error message about Ulead Data-Add.
So I had to change the SATA port again to make the drive show up. Upon booting I immediately went into my computer and disabled the Ulead Data-Add program on the drive as well as enabled CD writing(to disable DVD-Ram functions just in case) and so far, so good.
