Help with new Lite On 52x32x52x drive

I bought a 52x32x52 speed drive from newegg about 2 weeks ago and have yet to get the drive working right. The drive replaced a 52x24x52 from lite on and was working awsome at the time i sold it.

Here is what i am having problems with:

the drive reads cds great and even burns cdrw great that i have but they cdrw disks are only 12x media so i started testing burning out cdrs for faster speed testing on the unit after making good disks at 12x with cdrw media.

I am using memorex 48x multi speed cdrs for burning with as i know with my old lite on drive they worked and burned great at 52x. The problem i have with the new drive no matter what i burn will not write at over 12x speed and at times as low as 4x and it takes forever to start the unit burning in nero on average after you click the burn button the drive sounds like it is starting up at high speed then stopping then starting again for like 10 times before starting to burn like it is not able to calibrate or somthing. Yes i did check and the drive is running ultra 33 mode. Also i know the drive is one of the new models with out the eeprom thing so i did try updating to the latest firmware and still does the same thing.

Also the manufacture date is january 2004. I am just trying to figure out if this a problem with the drive and needs to be replaced or a user error but i think i have tried all i can to get it to work now. Ohh and nero is 6 with latest updates installed. also tried with blindwrite, easy cd creator 6 so i know it is not nero problem.

any help would be awsome to help solve the problem i am having or should i just send it in for replacement?

what does smartburn say that the discs are capable of? is this only one media type or have you tried others with the say results?

Can you test the drive in another computer?<img src=“http://short-circuit.zapto.org/freecomputerhelp.gif” border=0 alt=“Free Computer Help”>

I am however curious why you’d replace something that works perfectly? The 52x32x52 has dubious benefits over the 52x24x52 unit. Saving 20seconds on certain occasions doesn’t make sense, especially as you now have to find suitable media/etc.

At any rate, methinks nero hasn’t got the description of the burner.

Try updating to the latest nero / or download the latest nero CDROM.dat file.

Or even try an older version of nero.
Some people do experience issues with newer versions.

I hesitate to say aspi as Nero bundles it’s own nowadays, as do many burning programs, otherwise I would say that the adaptec aspi layer on your system is corrupt, or not in working order, even though CDRW programs no longer use adaptecs aspi layer.

What IDE drivers are you using/what chipset do your mainboard have?

If you have intel application accelerator installed (intel chipsets), get rid of it!

If you have nvidia nforce chipset - get rid of the nforce IDE drivers and use only the M$ ones included with the operating system.

nVidia is a good place to start! Grrrr, I built a system for close relative. USB drivers (the nVidia one’s) were a factor in that build that was hard to believe they were messing things up. Use the WindowsXP ones. Some sound drivers are bad also. But you’re right that it could be a hardware problem.
