Help!: Verbatim Datalife 4x DVD+R on Pioneer DVR-106D

I get pretty bad results when I burn DVD movies on Verbatim Datalife DVD+R media at 4x on my Pioneer DVR-106D. Does anyone else owning the Pioneer have similar problems with this media?

The graph looks ok until midway when both PI and PO start increasing. The average PI value varies anywhere between 10 and 30. I have problems playing the resulting movie DVD on some old players but not on the newer ones.

Do I have dud media or a dud drive? Verbatim 2x DVD-R media burns ok. So, could it be that my drive has problems burning at 4x? I don’t have any other 4x media to try out. :frowning:

Moved to the media forum, the test forum is still under development, and general discussions still belong here anyway, so you’ll get more responses here.

what !! the manufacture is Ricoh …

Ricoh is OK but not as the Mitsubishi Chemical .

so try to find some Mitsubishi or Tayio Yaden.

it should be MCC and don’t get the CMC .

If you buy Verbatim datalife you may get everything it seems. But if you buy verbatim datalifeplus then you get mitsubishi chemicals corproation OR Taiyo Yuden.

So, what is good (and cheap!) DVD+R 4x media for the Pioneer 106D/A06? Verbatim (and Ricoh) media was listed to be good for this burner at dvdrhelp and am unpleasantly surprised.

Also, what are acceptable averages for PO and PI?

#6

if you want cheap and good go with

Ritek.

if you want best go with

Verbatim DataLifePlus - Mitsubishi manufacture
Verbatim DataLifePlus - Taiyo Yuden manufacture
TDK Japan
Fuji - Taiyo Yuden manufacture
Pioneer

and use the search option you will find some test media for PI and PO.

Thanks Cobra88 and OC-Freak! I will look for the media you suggested.

I’ll try to post some media scans later today or tomorrow.

Then you’ll see how these (RICOHJPNR01) discs works for me

Great! Looking forward to it. Thanks!

I burnt two Verbatim DataLife 4x DVD+R’s (the ones mentioned in the original post) at 2.4x speed on the Pioneer DVR-106D. The Kprobe scan looks much better on these two burns. Hope that does not mean that my drive is not reliable while burning at 4x speeds! Has anyone experience the same with other 4x media?

You may want to take a look in the DVD media test forum now to see some of my results

Thanks! I have added the above results with the Verbatim DataLife 4x DVD+R media to that thread.
