I'm a complete newbie on disk drives. I got a Verbatim 522452AL from Best Buy and my son installed it. My son has built PCs before and I never had a problem with the CD-ROM drive but this is my first CD-RW drive. I use the one drive for both reading and writing.
I can read from the drive, like using audiograbber which is a ripper (max speed is about 6 and it freezes when it reached 9) but I can't write to it. When I try to write an audio file the drive hangs/freezes after the index is written. I was using NERO software that came with the drive. I switched over to Roxio Easy v6.0 to see if that was the problem but that didn't help any.
The read speed doesn't even approach the 52x speed I thought I would get and the write doesn't work at all. Obviously I need to either get a new dirve or make this one work. Any ideas?
I've read some of the forum on using FLASH but I'm not sure that the problem. I'm not sure that I would want to FLASH it either. I would be perfectly willing to accept any speed at writing (Its nice to have a high speed but I don't need it to write fast - I need it to write - period).
I have a home built 300 MHz with Windows XP with Intel II chip. Yeah I know I need to upgrade but I can't afford to right now.
