Help to revive my dvd writer

i have a aopen dvd writer - duw1616l pro

since it is manufactured by lite-on, i crossflashed to lite-on 1635S.YS0Z.stock firmware. now the drive is dead. no reaction since power-up my computer (cant open tray, no blinking…)

is there anyway to get it back to its ‘burning life’??

thanks for your help

And where did you get the information that told you it was a Lite-On 1635S? Never cross-flash unless you know absolutely 100% for sure what you are doing.

You’ll need to spend time reading and researching, and learning how to use MTKflash:

Judging by your obvious lack of computer experience, I would just buy a new burner. They’re cheap these days.

hmmm…i get some help from this forum and i check with videohelp.com to make sure of its manufacturer. only a few models from lite-on is almost identical with it. 1 is 1635s n another one is 1605s (if i m not wrong). the prob that i m facing with tis drive previously using aopen firmware is tat it cant burn dvd well, even good media too.

anyone having better firmware for my dvd writer??

#8

anyone have idea how to revive my drive bac using mtkflash??thanks…i hope i can cf to 160p5s…

#9

Buy a new drive - you have killed it.

#10

I too wasted my DUW1616L Pro Aopen drive trying to crossflash it to 1635S.YS0Z.patched-fbd-flashfix.exe
Now my drive even can’t open anymore :frowning:

I can however try to reflash it using : LtnFW.exe
or use a flashfixed flash file.

I like to try and flash the original

Now my broken DVD drive says it’s :
LITE-ON DVDRW SHW-1635S 0S05

The original Aopen Firmware (PTS3WIN.EXE) is a packed version (no .BIN file)
Does anyone have a .BIN file from a DUW1616L pro drive ?
Or could possibly make one ?

Many thanks in advance,

monty

#11

You could try Stuffit Expander on the .exe file .
http://www.stuffit.com/win-expander-signup.html
It worked for me on a Samsung Flash .exe file but it didn’t on a Lite On Flash .exe file.
It’s free so worth a try.
Use the Open\ Lower right pulldown & select all files.
Then the (PTS3WIN.EXE) ,
I will let the experts say for sure but it is my understanding the .Bin file from another drive of the same model won’t work . I don’t know why myself but I uploaded one for a Lite On I had for someone & COdeKing said that wouldn’t work .
It didn’t but CodeKing fixed it . I don’t know if he still does that as its been a while.

#12

nope didn’t work…
just bought myself a new ihas124 lite-on for 25 euro
and am left with a defect burner
maybe someone still has an image of my old defect burner

i had actually now successfully revive my DUW1616L PRO to 165P6S.

Let me recall the few main points.

  1. Get PTS3.bin file at https://www.dropbox.com/s/20a7jf9aligky4k/pts3.zip?m
  2. Use Avira NTFS4DOS to boot up the computer.
  3. Use XSF to flash back the PTS3.bin file to DUW1616L Pro

XSF

XSF is a DOS-based firmware flashing and backup tool (for real DOS, not a Windows Command Prompt). You can use this tool to flash drives that use a serial flash using firmwares in the raw binary (.BIN) format. This tool can also be used to make a backup of your drive’s current firmware. This utility is for drives based on the MediaTek chipset (virtually all LiteOn drives use the MediaTek chipset) that use a serial flash chip (5S, 6S, 16Pxx…).

By far the best use for this tool is to recover from a “bad” flash (a misflash), such as incomplete flashes, failed flashes, flashes of incorrect or corrupt firmware, etc.

Looking for .BIN firmwares? You can download .BIN firmwares from unofficial firmware pages. You can also use an extractor to extract them from unscrambled Windows firmware flashers.
Need help with booting to DOS? The Firmware Flashing Bootdisk might be useful. Also see the discussion thread above.
Note: This is a powerful tool and can flash your firmware to anything you want, including the wrong firmware! Make sure you are using the correct firmware for your drive before you flash and always back up your current firmware if you can!
