Attached are my burns with this media.

1st Burn: Plextor PX755A @ 8x
2nd Burn: Lite On SHW-160P6s PV9N
3rd Burn: LG H10A@H10N JL11
4th Burn: Benq 1650 BCHC

Anyone getting better results?

Those burns aren’t poor at all.

TDK media is getting lower and lower in quality. This was one of the BETTER burns I got with a 100 spindle I bought from Costco:

Are you sure it’s not the BenQ 1655 BCHB firmware rearing it’s ugly head?

That firmware is not at all reliable in my experience.

If it’s not due to firmware problems, then your scan is not good at all! :frowning:

Isn’t this a BenQ 1650 with BCHC f/w?

The obvious conclusion to me would be that your BenQ 1650 with BCHC burned it the best in terms of avg. jitter % and PIF total. But, that said, I am not aware of “general” PIF totals and jitter % for TDK 002.

Added: Jubjubbird, here’s the link to the TDK 002 results thread. Not a lot there, with some others in there that were TDK DVD+R 8x, but NOT all were TDK 002. Results are mixed, although from FranckSoy’s results, (edited) Sorry, he got excellent results with TDK 003. The TDK 002 results are from older burners, like NEC 3520 and LiteOn 1633, with very mixed results.

Nah. When I saw it’s one of the better burns, I mean compared to other drives too! I tried it on Plextor, LiteON, and Pioneer as well.

Those look like pretty average results for TDK002 to me.

Just curious, dolphin, but was the 100 pc. spindle from Costco the white printables. The results I’ve been getting, while not outstanding, are far better than your scan. Starting next week these are going on the 2 for 1 coupon. 200 printables for 39.99 isn’t bad but not if your results are typical.
Here’s a typical -R burn: http://club.cdfreaks.com/showpost.php?p=1255505&postcount=32
The +R are better but not nearly as good as the 8X Costco used to carry.

Those are the white printables yes… Like most retail brands attempting to cut corners on costs and pricing, more and more product is B Grade mixed. I think I got the worst of it available, but the possability of getting a spindle like mine is still out there. Futureshop is selling Verbatim 100pks for $30 CAD tomorrow, and you can PM them at Staples for $27 or so.

The spindles you will find at Costco use a different media code, mostly CMC and I found those TDK CMCs to give far worse scans than other brands using CMC, including memorex even.

I would avoid those TDK spindles. If you do get the TDK002 consider yourself lucky…

I took the bait the last time costco had the 2 for 1 TDKs and I’ll never make that mistake again!

the first scan is the tdk, granted it wasnt burnt on the best burner (liteon 811s) but all ten TDKs I burnt before returning the rest look about like this

the second scan was burnt on the same crappy burner/firmware/system setup, and it is the same cmc m01 media code, but it was memorex branded, I burnt an entire spindle of 50 without any costers and they all look about like this

when ANY media is out performed by MEMOREX by this large of a margin, me thinks it is time to avoid said media at all costs :stuck_out_tongue:

btw, the dates are wrong, the memorex is about a month older than the tdk

I knoe the scans aren’t trerrible, but I really hat to see those PUIF clumps at the end of the discs. I guess I just expected better from a so called ‘premium’ brand.

Guess I’m lucky that they are not line the CMC MO1’s!

What about firmware?

both were burnt with the latest (read: last) firmware, so it was unsupported media, but to see that much variation from the same MID, from memorex no less, leads me to believe TDKs QC is :Z

I hope you frog marched those horrible M01’s right back to Costco. One thing you cannot fault them on is their return policy. Best in the business in my experience.

That doesn’t bode well for me, I have two 50 pcs cakeboxes of TDK (CMC MAG. M01) waiting to be used  - although I’ve tried Infiniti ones with fair results, I’ve yet to try the TDK variety.

yup, I took them back ~6 months after I bought them, both spindles were opened and they didn’t even question me

No Costco in “The lovely west of england”? Didn’t think so. Maybe you could use them as mini frisbies and teach the kitty cat to catch them.

LOL!

Nope, no Costco here. Ah well, at least one of my drives should be able to burn them with fair results…hopefully…

you might be OK Arachne, I recall reading that the warehouse stores like costco/sams/etc. get “special” deals from the media producers in which they get inferior media at greatly reduced prices

not sure if this is a fact or just a myth though
