Help please

Hi everybody

New here and predictably begging for help.

My OS is Vista Ultimate 64-bit.

I can write to DVD by dragging and dropping in Windows explorer but that’s the ONLY way I can write to DVD.

I have 2 liteon SATA DVDrw drives and I get the same problem directing data to either of them although they both read perfectly.

WHen I try to copy a DVD the image is produced perfectly but as soon as any application starts to write it immediately fails before it has even committed the blank disk.

I have tried Nero7 Nero8 DVD shrink, CopyDVD, PowerISO, Magic ISO and several others.

As far as I am aware, I haven’t added any hardware or software which could have caused this, the DVD drive firmware is OK and everything worked perfectly until recently.

Can anybody shed any light on this please?

Please can anybody help?

Welcome to CD Freaks
Can you post a log from Nero, or try ImgBurn and copy a log from that?

Hi

Thanks for the welcome

I’ve never tried Imgburn before so I’ll download it, give it a try and do as you suggest.

A log as suggested would be really handy, to see what’s going wrong with the burn. Nero logs tend to give more info IMO, so one of those would be great :flower:

OK - Here is my Imgburn log after having tried to make a DVD from an ISO file:-

Any help would be greatly appreciated

OK - Thanks

How do I do that please, in Vista 64-bit with these SATA drives?

As you can tell, I’m not very clever with computers :frowning:

As far as I am aware, DMA doesn’t apply for SATA drives. It can cause enormous problems for PATA devices.

You have a Key Illegal Request error in Nero…which is usually related to the particular disks you are using, but that doesn’t explain how they burn using Windows Explorer.

You say this is a recent problem? Can you go back to a restore point prior to the onset of the burning problems?

I would be suspect of your media “Prodiscf01”. Very iffy quality… Try some good verbatim or Taiyo Yuden dvd’s
As far as I am aware, DMA doesn’t apply for SATA drives.
It can do if it’s set in the BIOS to run SATA in IDE compatible mode (which is how all my SATA stuff is run, and I can see DMA values for the drives in Device Manager)

Thanks for the info Arachne. SATA apparently does vary according to which controller you are using. Mine doesn’t have IDE compatibility mode at all.

Hehe no probs, on one of my PCs (with an ATi chipset), the only real option I have is SATA RAID…since I don’t have a RAID setup, I’m stuck with the IDE mode, that’s how I (rather rudely) found out when I did an OS reinstall

Lets fix some settings:

I 22:54:38 Write Speed: MAX
I 22:54:38 Link Size: Auto
I 22:54:38 Test Mode: No
I 22:54:38 OPC: Yes

OK

The problem has been solved

It was a corrupted onboard RAID driver.

A Quick re-installation of the offending driver from the mobo driver disk sorted everything out.

Thanks to all for your help and advice

Uhm, RAID would not work with ODD.
So probably it was a corrupted intel storage driver…
