Help please with a lite-on shw-1635s

right hello peeps my drive is a lite-on shw-1635s and im having trouble with it it keeps coming up with this when i burn 040803 LOGICAL UNIT COMMUNICATION CRC ERROR (ULTRA-DMA/32)
is there anyway i can fix this problem as it is spitting coasters out at block 16 when burning
as this is a new drive 2 months old i will be able to take it back if it’s a fault on the drive

Try a new cable and set the jumpers to CS
Bruce

thanks braynes i will give that a go now and let you know

nope still no joy put a new cable in and set jumpers to cs and it wont even show up comp just hangs so i put jumpers back to master and slave but left new cable in and all i get is same as above but i do have 2 drives in master is lite-on shw-1635s and slave is lite-on sohw-1633s

Maybe is not related, but what IDE drivers do you have? Is DMA enabled?

Take a look here

http://club.cdfreaks.com/showthread.php?t=101616

yeah just looked geno888 both are set to ultra dma but im running out of ideas here so its looking to the drive being faulty

To see if it’s really a faulty drive, can you install it on a different computer? In this way we can exclude a problem on your computer.

yes i can geno888 but i will have to do it tomorrow when i go to my mates house but if i shut down and go in safe mode it will burn no problem it’s just when im running in main windows xp but i will keep you informed how i get on mate and thanks for your help on this matter

You’re welcome

If you have problems only when windows is running, then you need to modify your configuration. Maybe you need a defrag, or you have too many processes running simultaneously. Or too many softwares installed that open too much processes in try bar.

Try to uninstall something not necessary or to close some processes with task manager to see if this improve.

Sometimes you just want to throw them, did you add any drivers like the patin couffin or do you have a lot of burning software on sounds like a windozz config problem, you can uninstall all software and try adding them back in one at a time.
Also the ide cable you used had 80 wires? and not 40,you need that to use ultra mode, also can you check in bios to see dma is on? in some MB that needs to be done and some not, good luck
Bruce

yes tried that m8 and i have no other software running just Alcohol 120%
and it was a clean install of win xp 3 days ago no other apps have gone in yes i download a trial version of alcohol 120% v1.9.5 build 3105

I all so tried my burner in a mate’s comp this morning and it worked ok so I came home put it back in my comp worked first time with no probs and 20 mins later went to burn a disc and got a new error he is the log file from alcohol and both my hard drives have ultra dma enabled at boot the cable i used is the cable lite-on supplied when new i think it’s a 40 and not an 80 strand ribbon cable

hope this sheds some light onto the matter and thanks guys for helping me

all so if i go into safe mode i can burn and copy disc with no problems so it must be a prob with software and not hardware as i like this program and i will buy it once i get it sorted out

What IDE drivers do you have? microsoft ones or nvidia or intel or via or other?

Try to uninstall both IDE drivers and then restart computer to made windows reinstall both IDE drivers. Often this solve problems.

Yas as geno say uninstall all drivers,(device manger>harware, right click on them and reboot ,you can also right click on them and tell them to update,if you have an nvidea MB use the win drivers NOT the nforse one.
You need a 80 wire cable to use dma so you will need to get one and set Both devices on cs on the dvd’s.
Bruce

right i have no nvidea drivers my hard drives are maxtor 60gigs my mother board is an asrock K7S41GX cpu is a sempron 2200+ with 500mb ddr ram running at fsb 333mhz my slots for hard drives is a 40 pin plug the same thats on the hd same with the dvd burners so how do i get a 80 strand ribbon cable into a 40 pin slot but like i said i can use the burner in safe mode but not in main windows i removed the drivers for my h/d and rebooted and it reinstalled them and with no luck my dvd burner is still the same as before what would happen if i removed the dma from my h/d to see if that helps im runnig out of options so i would like to thank you both for your help and patience for a newbie on the fourms

The 80 wire cable has only 40 pins(well probly 39) the other 40 wires are for ground and to seperate the sig. wires,to use ata 66 or higher you NEED 80 wire ide cables, for sure on the Hard drive
Bruce

And also DMA for HD: a HD running in PIO mode is not a good thing :disagree:

right thanks geno888 i will have to get 2 new cables tomorrow and give it a try so i will let you know the outcome around the same time tomorrow night if thats ok and once again thaks to you guys for all your help on this matter

When you get the new cables, blue to mb,black to Master, gray to slave
Set all drive’s to cs(HD and burners) check in your bios to see if you need to set anything, some you do, if so it will be under Intergrated Peripherals, after boot go to device manger and set dma under your ide controler, you may have to reboot(I would if it were me) and after that run nero info tool, you can d/l it free from nero, check your dma and ASPI setting should be green.
Bruce

thanks guys you have found the problem it was the ribbon cables put the new ones in tonight and d/l the nero info tool and its all showing dma is turned on and aspi layer is in the green just tried the drive and burned 3 disc with no probs and did a copy of a disc to my hard drive with no problems at all so i take my hat off to you both Braynes and Geno888 pity we could not go to the pub cause the beers would be on me all night thanks again you guys you have done a brill job of helping a newbie out
