I’ve heard a lot of talk here about the BenQ 1640…so I decided to go out and buy one.Now I don’t know if its just me or what the problem is but I’ve been messing with this burner for about a week and I’m about to throw this burner out the window because i can’t get the thing to burn no matter what i do.I’ve called their Tech support(if you can call it that),changed my drive from a master to a slave on the 2nd IDE channel…then back to a master(i have a DVD rom on the same channel)changed the cable from a 40 wire 40 pin to an 80 wire 40 pin, tried 3 different kinds of blank DVD’s…Teon 8x DVD-R,Compusa 4x DVD-R, TDK 8x DVD-R and TDK 8x DVD+R.I have the latest firmware, the newest verision of Nero,up to date on all my drivers, etc. The only reason i bought this burner is because of all the good things i’ve read about it here and my old burner was a 4x…i thought i would improve my write times by buying this one.If one of you kind people would let me know step by step how you get yours to work i’d really appreciate it…and you’ll probally save a life(so when i don’t throw it out the window…i won’t hit someone).I was using DVD shrink and AnyDVD to burn and after the compression it starts to burn…then says “burn unsucessfull at 8x,or 4x,or 2x”

DVDShrink and AnyDVD are no burning programs.

It makes more sense if you could exactly describe the problem and/or post a Nero log.

this is what i did…i started AnyDVD ,then i opened DVD shrink…the program compressed the movie…i saved it as an ISO…then i opened Nero to burn the ISO and this is the log file from it not being able to burn. The funny thing i see is it says DMA is not enabled, but i have the VIA IDE tool installed and with that it says DMA is enabled…maybe thats the problem???

#4

Yep, that via tool could be the troublemaker here.

Have you tried to burn the ISO using DVDDecrypter?

#5

Try the drive in another computer first.

#6

what i wound up doing last night was… control panel…add/remove…removed the Via IDE tool…rebooted…then i was able to burn the ISO sucessfully…thank you to all who responded for your help…this is an awsome site…i’ve been visiting this site for the past few years…lol…when i called BenQ’S tech support and they couldn’t help me he said for me to check out this site to see if i could find an answer…lol

#7

Yo-

Glad to see that you sorted it all out-

One last thing-

Go into your Control Panel - Hardware - Device Manager - click on IDE/ATAPI Controller - click on Secondary Channel - make sure DMA is enabled for both drives - go to Drivers - click Uninstall - close and reboot the computer

This will let XP reinstall a fresh driver for your new install - and all should be clean as a whistle - and your new drives should work at their optimium abilities-
