Hey all,

My name is Assaf Broitman and im from Israel.
im a Computer Programmer/DBA and i never really used to pay any attention
to CD/DVD hardware.

but im buying a new DVD Burner and i decided to make a good buy this time.

so, i need your help with choosing one from the list below:

  1. PLEXTOR DVD WRITER DUAL LAYER PX-716A/T3 IDE 2Y
  2. BENQ DVW1640 PRO DUAL LAYER DVD WRITER RETAIL 1Y
  3. LITEON SOHW-1633S DVD WRITER DUAL LAYER BLACK 1Y
  4. DVD X16 DUAL LAYER BULK ND3540A NEC
  5. SD-R5372B TOSHIBA (OEM)
  6. ASUS DRW-1608P DVD-RW

so, please, if you think one of them is the best tell me.
if they all CRAP, tell me aswell and if you have a good DVD burner that
is not written here tell me.

an important thing for me is that it will be a region free possible.

thank you all!!!

i dont know anything about any of them because i dont own them but i have a benq 1620 and i think it does an amazing job and its cheap too especially with some of the sales they got going on at some places, not one of them is the best hands down, everyone has different opinions and those drives all have their good points and their downfalls, some drives work better with different media then others, it all depends on your needs

I’ve a BenQ 1620, LG4163, Plextor 716a’s, these are all great burners, but
maybe you’ve a look at Here , perhaps
it could help you for your final choice or decision

I would go with the BenQ, but what about the old NEC 3500? That is a great burner also. I chose it over the newer models, as the write quality in places seems to be better.

I’ve just bought myself a Benq 1640,($72AU) and a NEC 3520.($86AU) (Just cant find the 3500 anymore) I still cant decide which is better, after some flashing, and using quality media, these two are genuinely flawless.
