Hellooo everyone ,
This is my first post, and I'm very pleased to be a member of the community. My knowlage isn't vast, but I know bits and pieces of information about this and that. If it prooves usefull to someone I shall make my attempt to help. Now on to my thread
I'm looking to build a new computer. I have a few questions, and by a few I mean quite alot. I will start off with my expectations of my new computer.
I'm looking to build a reliable machine, fast, efficant, good video card and good sound card. A very important part to the computer will be the setup of my drives. This is where my questions start.
1) What kind of processor should I be looking at getting, the top of the line? AMD or Intel? I'll be doing a substanial amount of Graphic and audio editing. I'll also be doing alot of gaming. If you could give me an example of a good mother board + processor combination I would be much apperciated.
2) How much ram is too much? I'm thinking 512 Megs. Im confused with all this DDR and the ratings of the ram. PC 800 I dunno, help me out here. Should I maybe go more then 512 megs?
3) For video card/audio card. I'm looking to do alot of gaming so I generally need a good one of both. I'm thinking I will definatly get a card that uses a Geforce chip set, not the top of the line, cause they run far too expensive, but a card that performs very well none the less.. Any suggestions? As for sound card I'm gonna go with a Sound blaster, I have the sound blaster live value in my comp now, and Ive been very happy with it. Do I need something better then that, should I buy into the marketing of the different kinds of the Sound blaster, like the sound blaster gamer, or the sound blaster mp3+ etc etc.
4) Now this is where the questions start about my drives setup. I will be backing up all the cd's I purchase, so I'm loooking for a drive that will do Audio Extraction thats done quickly, but also a drive that will be able to read copy protected programs I purchase. I'm scared about the 52x write drives, I've read they can make disc's explode, and they arent good. I'm confused when it gets up to those kind of speeds. I know I'm looking for reliablity in my writer. The capability of needing a DVD drive is up in the air for me. I've had a DVD drive for 4 years, and have rarely used it. Should I go with A Regular CD Drive, A Dvd drive and a Cdrw writer? or a Dvd drive and a writer? I dunno It doesnt matter, as long as I can get what I need to get done with them.
I will run windows XP with my system, unless you guys think I might be better off with a differnt OS. I am open to comments and suggestions, so feel free to drop them in. By the way, I get all my computer parts for wholesale, my neighbor used to own a computer store. So he sells me all my parts at whole sale. If you ever need really really cheap parts in Canadain funds, just get a hold of me, and Im certain I can work something out with you.
Anyways thanks guys, and I give you my apoligise for the long post, and lack of good punctuation and spelling.
