Help making an internal BenQ1650 external

Hi
I have a problem getting my internal BenQ1650 drive becoming external.

First, I don’t have a jumper or at least I don’t think so. So I can’t choose to make it master or slave. (its supposed to be master i believe).

Second, I plugged in the DVD burner into my case (this one: http://www.newegg.com/product/product.asp?item=N82E16817155706 )
I plugged in the IDE ribbon and the Power cable into my DVD burner and closed up the case. I plugged the power in and flipped the switch and tried opening the tray but it didnt open. Well then I plugged in the USB and and turned the unit on again but my Windows XP didnt recognize it.

Is there anything I’m doing wrong? PLEASE HELP!!!

thanks

I have the same external enclosure as you do. I replaced the IDE cable with a different one and it worked.
