Help - LG GSA-4081b won't burn over 2X

I read this thread about my drive’s firmware.

The question I have is my firmware says A100.
How can the newer version be called 1041 ?

Are we talkin the same drive here?

Anyway here is a screen shot of Nero Toolkit specs.

For some reason all new 8X DVD-Rs won’t burn over 2X with any burning software. Nero, Roxio etc.

When I had the Fuji 4X DVD-Rs they burned at 4X great.

How come these newer 8X wont burn at 4X on my LG burner? This happens with all 8X DVD-Rs Ive tried so far.

oh nevermind. I was just reading that this firmware update is supposed to allow me to burn at higher speeds. Hopefully it will work.

I’m a bit scared to mess with the IDE connection and slave master settings though.

Here goes nothin’

no actually I do have a question.

When the Nero Toolkit info says my drive is at location 0:1 what does that mean? Channel 1 ?

I need to know because LG’s instructions are:

“Connect the drive to the secondary IDE channel as a master drive with no other devices connected to that channel. Also disconnect any other optical drives connected to the computer. Start Windows and verify it can recognize the drive.”

Nero InfoTool 3.00

If you look at Nero InfoTool’s hardware config tab (look at the graphical layout in the program and not at the text report), I think you’ll have a much better idea what your system configuration looks like.
