Help... i don't know what to do.. it won't burn

hi you guys,

I could really use some help. my computer’s E:\drive will not detect audio cds. The few times in the past week when it has, it will stop in the middle of the process and ask me to check the disc. I have tried different brands of blank audio cds. I have tried lowering the burning speed as low as 4x. But now it won’t even detect the cd as a blank. The cd just spins inside of the drive and stops. No options to burn, and when i try, it says, please enter a blank cd. I have unistalled and reinstalled the drivers over and over. It is able to immediately pick up a prerecorded cd and play it with no issues. And it is able to burn dvds!!! So why is it not detecting my blanks. I have cleaned the drive with a laser lens clearner. I have ran my spyware and anti-virus programs. I tried cleaning the registry and freeing up space on the pc. I don’t know what else to do. Someone please help. The drive can’t be bad if it is able to burn dvds and detect cds and play then. But when it comes to blanks. out of luck. anyone have a possible solution?

You must give specific information regarding your drive manufacturer, model number as well as the brand and type of CD’s you have tried for anyone to help you solve this problem. Also, have you successfully burned CD’s in the past? What burning software are you using?

Well bare with me, because I don’t know much. I know I have a compaq Pesario. I have tried memorex, maxwell and sony cd-r blanks. Yes, I have burned before in the past. About 2 weeks ago, it was burning fine. I use Windows media player to burn. Is that what you need or do i need to provide more information?

Do you have Alcohol or Dameon Tools installed?

i had daemon tools installed but i have uninstalled it.

Try using Burrrn (www.burrrn.net) . It’s free , does a great job with Audio CDs & often works where others fail.

The Sony CDs should be fine , but the Memorex ones could well be fit for only the waste bin.

With a modern burner & hi-speed CDs then 16x should be a good burn speed. What burner do you have?

what burner i have… um… i know i must be the most stupid person to ever post, cause i really don’t know the answer. Tell me what to look for and i can tell you. thanx

Hi beautynlove, welcome to CDF

Just chipping in here 'cos the others don’t seem to be online.

You can find the make and model of your burner in Device Manager under DVD/CD-ROM Drives (see pic of my own setup):

Thank You Arachne! This is what mine says: HP DVD Writer 740b.

I downloaded and tried to use burrrn and received the following errors: Finished processing file #1.
