HELP! DVD Burner Issues GSA 4120B

I have a near new LG GSA-4120B DVD-RW. Suddenly it wont work… well let me clarify…
it will not play movie DVD’s(Originals or burns) The cursor flashes from arrow to small cd symbol but nothing happens and then “my computer” stops responding at all. THen as soon as I eject the disc, "my computer returns to normal.
The drive will play data and audio cd’s and dvd’s but then renames itself to a CDRom Drive in my computer
The drive is recognised in system devices as a DVD-ROM drive and there are no problems showing.
Testing with Nero continues to indicate there is no disc in the drive.
PowereDVD advises me that the disc is in an unspecified format.
I have uninstalled and reinstalled the device several times with no change to the existing problem.
I have done a full format on my system and the problem has remained unchanged.
I am running AMD 3200, IG DDR Ram, Asus A7N8X-E M/B with XP Pro SP2 with all updates.

Any help would be greatly appreciated

Hi Ladie Jas, are you sure you have set the jumper correctly for master/slave?

Aye, Im sure…
but it was a good suggestion…

Do you have a DOS boot floppy disk or Windows 98/98 SE boot CD? If it works in DOS mode, it’s likely to be a software-related problem.

NVidia NForce 2 chipset.

K7 Flagship Motherboard
NVIDIA® NForce2 Ultra 400 + MCP-T
400 MHz FSB
Dual-Channel DDR400 Memory
Dual LAN with Gigabit
ASUS Wi-Fi slot
Dolby® Audio
IEEE 1394

Anoter fast way to finding out is to install the 4120B on another PC with Intel or SiS chipset.
