Help, can't burn DVDs at all

Hello, great place here!

As I searched for answers to problems I kept finding this site, so now I’ve registered.

Okay so here’s my issue:

When I try to burn DVD files, or videos to DVD or anything it says “failed”. I’ve seen fixes for this for specific programs but this happens to me using ANY burning software. I thought that I had found a fix long ago that had something to do with deleting a registry field but cannot locate that now.

Also I can burn CDs just fine. One thing I’ve tried is to reduce the burning speed, to no avail.

TIA for any help.

Welcome to CD Freaks.

If you’ve got Nero try with that & when it fails save the log file & post it back here. That’ll tell us a lot.

#3

Okay will do.

Wait, I can’t do that. Nero freezes up and I have to Control Alt Delete.

Even during a straightforward burn?

You could try with ImgBurn as that has a burn log display that can be cut & pasted.

What burner are you using & what media? Using Nero’s CD-DVD Speed & the disk info tab with a blank DVD loaded is very useful.
At the top right of this app is a floppy icon which can be used to save the screen image (in png format) which can then be posted back here as an attachment. That’ll be Go Advanced & Manage Attachments.

ImgBurn gave numerous errors throughout the process.

I’m using Memorex +Rs but I have tried many others so it’s not the DVDs. The media can be anything from videos to dvd files or data. No matter what, fails.

Memorex is poor quality media, maybe the others you’ve tried is also poor quality.

Post the screen image from CD-DVD Speed & lets see.

I think that many people have problems with these Mashita laptop burners. But that media isn’t too bad from what I’ve heard.

I couldn’t find anything about firmware upgrades being available, maybe you can try the laptop makers website.

All I can suggest is that you give Verbatim DVD+R a try, unless of course you’ve already tried them.

#9

Yes, a bit more expensive but the same result.

Again remember I can burn CDs fine. Ugh.

ALSO I almost forgot, while I ran Vista RC1 it worked fine. I formatted to put XP back on. Ever since I’ve had no luck with DVDs.

#10

Could just be that the burner is failing. Maybe you could try a lens cleaner.

Apart from that I’m out of ideas I’m afraid.

#11

I thought of cleaning it, but then it burns CDs fine?

This is really bothering me, I actually fix other people’s computers and me having this problem is not good for my reputation lol

There is no update at HP for the driver, should I look into that further on the drive?

#12

There are 2 separate parts to a DVD burner , one handles CDs & the other DVDs. It’s not unheard of for one part to fail & the other to be fine.

#13

True.

Another reason I need this to work though is that I have files that need to be backed up, and CD burning just won’t cut it.
