Help: Burning Memorex DVD with PX716UF

I have a Plextor PX716UF attached via USB2 to my Dell XPPro system. I am trying to burn MPEG home video to Memorex DVD+RA 4x 4.7gb 120 min video DVD’s using Roxio Easy Media Creator 7 Basic DVD edition. I have the lastest firmware updates for the PX716UF, as well and Plextools (2.23). The DVD I burn plays perfectly on the PX716UF. But when I try to play it on either of my home DVD players, it breaks up and skips in an unacceptable manner. The problem changes with different memorex media, but never goes away. I have the same problem when I burn the DVD using InterVideo WINDVD Creator 2.

Can anyone give me recommended Plextools settings for this Memorex Media. (Is this a dumb question?) I understand that Plextor discourages Memorex Media and would prefer me to use Verbatim, but the Memorex is much easire to obtain locally, and seems to work just fine as long as I read the media on the same device that I use to burn it.

Thanks for anything you may have

Well you kinda answered yourself. Everytime I have ever burnt Memorex DVD media with my plextors the quality was not so good. I think you should find an online retailor to buy other respectible/cheap media. I recommend Ridata from Newegg.com or Fugi from Bestbuy.com. They are the only 2 medias I use in my Plextor burners.

  1. Can you check what is the Media ID of your memorex? Here: http://club.cdfreaks.com/showthread.php?t=93797

  2. What is your dvd player? Check if your dvd player can playback burned dvds http://www.videohelp.com/dvdplayers

  3. Try to burn at rated speed (4x), instead of the default max, which “can” be 8x.

See if you can’t get your hands on some better DVD+RW like RICOHJPNW11, which is often sold as Fujifilm 4x DVD+RW (among other brands).
