I borrowed a friends 812S (flashed with US0N f/w) to burn some data, he gave me some Datawrite 8x -R media to use, and it keeps burning CRC errors on them? I haven’t got any +R media to try.
I also borrowed a friends Plextor PX-708A (f/w 1.04) to see if that did the same, and burned one test on the Datawrite -R media and one on a Datasafe -R media he gave me, and both burns were error free!
The same media that failed on the 812S burned fine on the 708A.
Both drives were Primary Slaves each time, and used Record Now Max 4.5 (PX engine 507) and Nero 22.214.171.124.
First, I burned with Record Now at 8x with the Datawrite -R media, Norton Antivirus enabled and got buffer underruns but BURN-Proof kicked in but media had CRC error when file copying data back.
Then I burned the same Datawrite -R media with Nero at 4x (ISO/UDF format), Norton Antivirus was disabled because I thought this was contributing to the buffer underrun, RAM buffer was set to 80mb in nero and it burned with no underrun (no surprise at 4x though) but still produced a disc with a CRC error when file copying data from it!
Next I tried the Plex 708A, burned with Record Now at 4x with Datasafe -R media and Norton Antvirus enabled, and it burned error free!
Then I burned a Datawrite -R disc with nero at 4x, Norton Antivirus enabled, same settings in nero that produced a bad disc before but this time burned error free!!
From my small testing, 812S = 2 failures in 2 burns, 708A = 2 success’s in 2 burns!
Does this indicate my mates 812S is faulty?
