Help, 1620 Keeps trashing DVD+Rs :(

The last time i used the 1620 is about half a year ago, so now it is time use it again, but it just keeps trashing my dvd+r, 5 out of 7 dvd+r’s are in the trashcan. The discs are rated at 8x and i used 4x to ensure safety (apparently failed).

Initially the firmware was B7T9, but the burning always ended with “write error” @ 85-100%. So now i updated it to B7W9, it got wrose… it failed at 2%.

So, can anybody help me?
I don’t wanna trash anymore dvd… they ain’t exactly cheap…

I don’t recommend burning at 4x on a 1620. The few times I’ve tried, the results were terrible.

What’s the QS 99? Is that of the good burns? MCC 003 should burn just fine at 8-12x on the 1620.

As for firmware, maybe try the “B7L9 trick” - ie. flash to B7L9, reboot, power down, flash to the new firmware, reboot, power down.

Good luck.

That’s the thing I was trying to find in my search, was the reflashing to B7L9, then to new f/w. I had read it several times, but forgot it. Thanks for taking care of that, ninbang.

Forgive my ignorance… but what does the B7L9 flashing do? My B7W9 flashing might have something wrong?

So 4x is not recommended, 8x is better? That’s weird… i’ll try that after i reflash the stupid burner later

Yea the QS99 is from one of the 2 out of 7 dvd that are burnt correctly.

I’m not exactly sure how/why it works (not everyone needs uses it tho). There’s paragraph about it in the Benq FAQ thread.

Yeah, for some reason, the 1620 is just not a very good 4x burner. Hopefully, you’ll have better luck at 8x on the MCC 003’s. You may not get QS99’s all the time, but that media should do well with the 1620’s. Since you went from T9 to W9, you could also give V9 a try as well.

Good luck.

zhiyung, your burning problems are software related, not to drive or media!
Try older Nero version (6.6.x.x) or other burning software. (I don’t use or know that much about Nero latest revisions 7.x.x.x, but you can check this out by yourself in Nero forum.)

Reading FAQ at top of page will give you many answers

That quality scan is irrelevant because it only run for 43 seconds (not a full disc), in addition the standard scanning speed on BenQ’s is 8x. On a full disc you should have 17000+ samples.

Edit.

Than maybe you can enlighten us why!
I for once never had any problems burning at 4x speed with great quality, here is my latest 4x burn. :stuck_out_tongue:

When you use nVidia’s IDE driver, Nero always shows DMA as off, even when it is on.

The drive detects something wrong with the medium (media, disc).

Manufacturer: : Verbatim
MID : MCC 003 (000)
Made in Taiwan, Singapore, India? There are some differences with the media code block compared to the ones I have.

I did the B7L9-reflashing, didn’t work, the burning still failed within 10%, one more dvd in the dustbin

It’s the KEY_ILLEGAL_REQUEST and KEY_MEDIUM_ERROR again, so they mean i have rather lousy media or

The discs are made in taiwan, is that bad? These dvd+r (mitshubishi kagaku media) are those with higher prace tag, so i thought they are better…

About trying older nero, i was using v6.6 earlier but because of the write error, i updated to v7.0.14b today.

Ah, i recall that about a week or two ago, i did make a full dvd+rw without any problem, with nero 6.6 and B7T9.

I think im going to try older firmwares, but it will be like 2 reboots + 1 dvd per try  But enough dvds in the dustbin for today, i’ll try tomorrow morning… anymore suggestion before more dvds are trashed?

zevia, “KEY_ILLEGAL_REQUEST” alone doesn’t need to indicate a media or any other error… (see my attachment of this burn on 1620.

And error code “1135” is a “write” error, but ofcourse this can be caused by media (if fake), not neccessary though.
(Nero error codes can be found in Nero.txt file located in Programs–>Ahead–>Nero folder.)

Edited.

Exactly the same as on my MCC-003 media, see attachment again.

Note, zhiyung has sofar done all burns in UDF(1.02) mode and all burns have been aborted in “lead-in” process.
Better wait for a DVD_ISO burn before making any final conclusions about media.

I was just noting the time between the Illegal request and medium error (but I failed to comment on it). Hmm, what’s the relation between the error and your burn? :stuck_out_tongue:

You seem to have quite few drives installed in your computer check this forum

My 2-month-old Antec 420w which seems to reside in the ‘good’ list, i’ve seperated the 3 hdds and 2 optical drives to different power rails.

Just now i did a flash to B7T9, reinstalled Nero 7.0.1.4b, did a 8x burn of about 4.2gig of data, and it miraculously succeeded  I’ll try more later.

The attachment is the disc quality test of the disc, i don’t exactly know how to interpret the graph :o , but it seems that the last 1/3 of the disc isn’t that good, isn’t it?

It’s no miracle. It’s thank to you not giving up that easy.

You can run a transfer rate test in Nero CD-DVD Speed and test your last burn.

BTW, Antec 420watts PSU should be able to deliver the juice needed IMO.
