Hello Everyone. Need a few suggestions

First time poster and long time reader and forum searcher.
I have a large movie collection that is getting a bit beat up. Between the scratches and crappy media (Memorex mostly…I know, I’m kicking myself now) they are giving me grief when playing on my regular DVD player. These are all single layer and will be burning to Verbatim DVD+r 16x.
I’m setting up an old Dell to try and save what I can. I have 5 burners and would like to know…

  1. Which would be the best ripper, reader?
  2. Which would be the best writer?
    And the choices are…

Lite-On DH-20A4P
Pioneer 112D
Optiarc AD-7200A
Nec ND=2500A

On a side note, which of these Would make the best CD ripper, burner?
I also have a
Lite-On LTR-16122B and
Nec NR-7900A CD burners.
I would appreciate any suggestions.

And thanks for the great site and forum.

@ grdchkr,

Welcome to the Forum.

If N e r o CD DVD Speed (http://www.cdspeed2000.com/files/NeroDiscSpeed_41140.zip) ‘ScanDisc’ and/or DVDInfo (http://www.dvdinfopro.com) ‘Errors’ reveals excessive Cyclic Redundancy Check (CRC) read/write errors of your problematic Memorex DVD Media you mostly will experience difficulties in successfully retrieving useful data from these particular Disc not mater what ‘Ripper’ you use.

If you experience data retrieval difficulties from your known problematic Memorex DVD Media suggest trying the ISO Puzzle (http://www.geocities.com/marsoupilamis/DocEnglish.htm) software program which might assist you in retrieving the data from your problematic Memorex DVD Media.

My best ‘Ripping’ results have been obtained by using a Lite-On SOHD-16P9S DVD-ROM Drive and/or a Lite-On SOHD-167T DVD-ROM Drive.

Thanks bjkg, I’ll check those out.

So far I found out that using DVDFab.Platinum.v5.1.2.2, the Lite-On had no trouble ripping a DVD that the LG choked on.
