HDD on PCI IDE controller and ODD on mobo's... possible?

My PC needs extended IDE slots in order to handle my upcoming DVDRW and CDRW units. My favorite dealer has a Promise Ultra-133 RAID IDE controller for 40 €, good. The problem is they have been reported to cause lots of trouble with ODD, like DMA devices in PIO mode. The other choice is an Adaptec IDE controller for 80 €, too much!

Can I: install the IDE controller, connect the hard disks to it and connect the ODD to the motherboard onboard controller ? And switch the boot sequence to IDE controller - mobo controller…

Yes
