Have to set DVD region on an external case?

Hey Peeps,

funny thing happened to me yesterday, I installed a DVD-RW drive in an external case with USB 2.0 and 1394 Firewire. After installing the drive and hooking it up to my puter with firewire, I inserted a DVD. I was surprised to learn that I had to set the region on my external box’s chipset…anyone else have to do this?

P.S. I am sure the region was set on the drive prior to installing it in the external box.

most retail dvd-rom’s and writers do not come with their region set from my experience (maybe on prebuilt computers but not on the retail ones)

Its because the manufacturers dont know where there drives will be sent upon manufacture so they leave it up to the user to set

The drive previously had the region set when I had it installed in my computer…

This region had to do with the external case and the chipset used to communicate via 1394 and USB 2.0
