My first post so please bare with me.
About a week ago I bought a spindle of 100 Verbatim disk from Newegg for around $15.Had to order them because I couldn't find any Verbatim in Corpus Christi (sad huh?). All that is sold down here is Memorex which I just don't trust. Anyway....
Alcohol 120% tells me that the manufacturer is Moser Baer India Limited and the recording layer is PhthaloCyanine material.
The burner I'm using is a brand new Asus DRW-2014L1T. Have successfully burned about 25 disk so far with only 2 coasters. Alcohol has to slow the burn speed down for every one of these darn disk. For example, Set the burn at 40x and it will never get any faster than 18x. Tried it with some Phillips media I had sitting around and it at least got up to 36x.
I'm not really complaining because the disks where cheap but was just curious how long the data will last? When did Verbatim start using Moser Baer India a manufacturer and don't they suck? Should I use these for less important tasks such as checking out the latest Linux live cds or would it be trustworthy enough for storing important data for a few years to come?
I'm sure this has been asked a million times before but could someone suggest a really good brand that will last.
That you in advance
