Has anyone used the Playo DL discs?

they are sold at meritline, are they better than the memorex ones? they arent even listed on Videohelp.com.

There’s some discussion about these discs on page three of this thread - http://club.cdfreaks.com/showthread.php?t=156935

You could always try them out and see if they’re good or not? From the other discussion on Playo DVD+/-R media, it might be worth giving it a shot. If they’re cheap, I might just try and purchase a few for my own DL testing sake and see how they hold up. You never know with these new branded media…you might even discover that they could be as good as TY… :stuck_out_tongue: lol, that’s not likely though

So has anyone tried these yet? Meritline has them on sale 50 for $54 sounds like a fair deal…

Try them out and let us know. If the Meritline reviews are to be believed, 2 people suggest they are better than Ritek. We’ll wait for your report.

Like that’s hard to believe. Now if they said as good as Verbatim DL then I might be pushed to think they are exagerating.

LOL :iagree:

Would mean they only can be crappy Ritek DL medias…

It’s horrible to read this resulta and comments: http://www.videohelp.com/dvdmedia.php?dvdmediasearch=&dvdmediadvdridsearch=&type=6&size=8.5&dvdburnspeed=All&order=Name&hits=25&search=Search%20or%20List%20Media&next=25#next

Given the fact that you live in the US, you can definitely hold out for better deals. IMHO only a D/L Verbatim DVD+R is worth bothering with for D/L media at this point. Keep an eye out for in store sales as the 10 for $20 aren’t that uncommon and every now and then you can get crazy deals on them from newegg. Like the $17 shipped for 10 upfront coupled with the $8MIR, which works out to $9 shipped AR. Even those playos aren’t that cheap.

If these are from a new manufacturer, not Ritek or CMC or Ricohjpn, then it would be nice to know who makes them and how they perform even if the price isn’t compelling right now.

I’m tempted to try a small batch, but my interest is reduced since I don’t care to deal with Meritline.

Hrm… I could be remembering wrong, but I think Ian from CDRLabs bought Playo 2.4X DVD+R DLs and got single layer AML002 or something rediculous like that. Yes, a single layer DVD+R with DVD+R DL silkscreened onto it.

Just got in the mail a sample of 10pack spindle Playo 2.4x DVD+R DL. It says Made in China but the MID is RICOHJPN-D00-001.

Pic1: the spindle (grabbed online)
Pic2: Plextor PX-760SA supports at 4x

I suspect these may be the same as the Matrix disks sold through Shop4tech and others:
http://club.cdfreaks.com/showthread.php?t=177970

Please post some scans as soon as you’ve burned some

What about scans?

The MID sounds promising… Please more info about those stuff.

eh, scans? I thought there are many RICOHJPN D00 scans in this forum? You can find some in the Ricoh DVD+R DL thread in the Blank Media Tests. :stuck_out_tongue:

I usually wait until my next review, but OK I can burn a disc, on which burner?

Here are more pics.

These are made in China and are assumed to be fake MIDs. The question remains if the chinese have figured out how to make good quality DL disks or not. Your scans will help answer that.

I’m in the same boat. The Matrix disks I ordered through Shop4tech are made in Macau with the same MID. They’ll arrive next week and I’ll share scans at that time.

I don’t know where genuine Ricohjpn D00 disks are made. Anyone have info on this?

Hmm, if the media is fake, they are pretty brave offering us for review.

Fake probably isn’t the right word. They are not claiming to be Ricoh media. The packaging plainly indicates the brand and where it is made.

They are using the same media code. Maybe “clone” is a better word.

I guess there is nothing wrong with using the same media code. Obviously they have not established their own code and they want their media to be recognized in burners so they make it compatible with the strategies already prepared for RICOHJPN D00.

I have no problem with it if the media is good. So lets see some scans

genuine “RICOHJPN D00” - made in Taiwan.
Japanese manufacturer “Ricoh Company Limited” consigns manufacturing to Taiwan RiTEK Corp.

“RICOHJPN D01” - made in Taiwan or Japan.
RICOHJPN D01(002) -> made by Taiwan.
RICOHJPN D01(067) -> made in Japan.
