Warner Bros. has launched an investigation into the matter, but some still believe it was a publicity stunt to generate more interest, days before the film's global launch. Obvious Marketing Stunt … the first 1/2 hr of any movie is garbage anyway, while it sets up the plot & etc/etc. All the good stuff is at the end of the movie.
Any serious insider would have released the entire film … and would have been competent enough to recognize the file size was too small, or would have checked the quality of the entire film …
The real question is … will the fooled wannabe pirates be victims of lawsuits now?
Warner Brothers are not going to do anything. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows made 70+ million on its opening day.
I agree with this being a likely publicity student. I can’t see why else would someone release just a snippet rather than the full thing.
Also, even if is honestly not a publicity student, it’s just a snippet! The only way someone will see the complete film is by going to the cinema to see it, so there will be no revenue lost over this.
The new shareware:
Put the first half of your movie out there for free. End it with “Go to the cinema for more!”.
So you go to the cinema, be bored for the first half of the movie. Fortunately there is a break. Drink a lot of cola and snort a lot of popcorn because you might feel lame. Afterwards, enjoy the 2nd part.
