Hey - I am having major problems with my “phillipsdvdrw416”. It is able to burn CD’s, and unable to burn DVDS. It has been working fine for the past year, then suddenly out of the blue with no significant changes im aware off, its gone dead. Ive wasted 15 discs experimenting around trying to get it working.
Each time it only burns part of it then after it says “burn process started” it says PHILLIPS DVDRW416 WRITE ERROR
followed by GENERATING HIGH COMPATABILITY BORDERS SUCCESSFULLY and finishes off with BURN PROCESS FAILED. I think when I tried just burning it via data mode, an alternative error came up about border block error or something/

To remdy it ive using the latest nero, updating firmware, formatted computer and use nero straight away … still same problems, also used different discs and ive physically taken out the dvd writer and blown dust off it, but that hasnt seem to have done the trick either.
Im using Nero 5.5 burning Rom, that came with the hardware. And Ive attatched the following nero log, PLEASE HELP ME … ive seen there have been similar cases on google, but there is no clear answer of whats wrong. I know for a fact that these discs im using are definetly compatabible with my writer. HELP!

“Im using Nero 5.5 burning Rom” - get real, get the latest Nero.
you have intel chipset on motherboard ? you DID install the intel inf chipset installation utility BEFORE installing intel application accelerator ?

#3

Sense Key: 0x03 (KEY_MEDIUM_ERROR)
This error is usally the media. What kinds of media are you using (not the brand, the media code which is the true manufacture). Use this free program to read the media code.
http://dvd.identifier.cdfreaks.com/
It might not be bad quality media, but rather media that your drive/firmware doesn’t like. Even if you are using the same brand you have used in the past, it doesn’t mean that the media code is the same.

#4

Thanks guys for getting back to me - Firstly the intel application accelerator was installed to handle a diamond maxtor 300gb hard disk. As windows can only read it as 136gb otherwise - no I didnt install any intel inf chipset installation - it hasnt caused me any problems … and it was clearly stated its not needed.
Secondly why do I need to “get real” and get the latest nero? All I see in the forum is how people keep getting problems with it. Im able to copy retail dvds’, copy multiple dvds with menus intact on 1 dvd, dual dvds and copy custom made dvds etc, so what can nero 6 do that 5.5 cant that is worth the update, would it cost me? etc.

Finally and most importantly to the dude ripit who made a good point. thanks a lot for showing me that. Ive lost 15 dvds on several types just to double check after I used the identifier.Looks like the media arent to blame though. Ive been told that there are two different lazers, one for cd’s and one for dvds. I guess the dvd one has blown?

#5

Have you tried another burning programme?

#6

It just may work for you. Nero 6.x has improved compatibility and related fixes, I was unable to burn at all with Nero 5.5 but 6.x solved my problems.

#7

Cool, nero 5.5 works fine for me … will update if it can do anything that nero 5.5 cant do that I want done. yep, ive used other dvd recording … stompt came up with same problem, but the errors were unreconised.

#8

Any other ideas? & could you answer my questions about nero 6 please - otherwise dont bother if you were wrong @ Ghosters.

#9

The newer versions of nero have a beter burn engine than some of the 5.? ones. It also adds qiute a few capabilities to the program. Theres a free trial, decide for yourself if it is beter. Also, if you could post the media codes off the disks, we could help you rule out media as a cause.
