Never bothered to use custom PS3 firmware, until now…:stuck_out_tongue:
Unfortunually it’s too late,as I’m on official 4.50,so it will be a real PITA to downgrade to CFW 3.55 and the up to CFW 4.50…:Z

It is strongly believed firmware updates in consoles & handhelds are designed to combat piracy. You will see a few changes here and there but they are worthless to some degree. Failing to update of course will result in no dibs on free online services.

Are they really trying to combat piracy, or are they trying to combat privacy?

There is no “trying”, they resolve piracy threats right away. Usually within weeks or even days. By issuing firmware updates that disables it. The PS3 has become anti-pirate proof since 2011 when firmware 3.56 was released.

Heres more on that:

@ macro. Bollocks.
PS3 piracy is still rampant. Hard core pirates just spent $100 on a piracy kit, instead of $100 on console games.

I wouldn’t say rampant for say…alot of folks I have spoken to do not consider opening up their hardware as a viable solution to flashing their console…it’s very risky…and very complicated procedure. On par with brain surgery. Even if they gave me the E3 flasher, I would turn it down. :disagree:
