HI... I'm new on forum, and I've got big problem with my GWA-4164B - It won't read or burn any DVD or CD that i put into...
This is what i done before posting it:-I've foud information about crossflashing 4164 into 4166 1.01, so I've done that-it didn't help at all-so I've tried with latest FW for 4166 (with LS), but still it wont work
after that I've found an oiginal (i think) fw for my writer http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/genericSoftwareDownloadIndex?lc=en&cc=us&softwareitem=pv-36697-1but it's too late for flashing it, cause writer is now recognised as 4166...
Help me! It have to work again, cause I have no warranty
This has nothing to do with firmware update.
1/ Could be a windows or driver problem or conflict. Try the drive on another computer or on another windows fresh install.
2/ Check cables.
3/ Put the drive in secondary master alone.
4/ Try to clean the lens but I don't believe in that with such a new drive...
PS : If you need to reinstall the 4164 firmware for warranty purpose, extract the 4164 .bin win WinRAR and flash it with the 4166 1.01 flasher.
Ad.1 - not possible - tested on 3 different computersAd.2 - plugged and unplugged many times - even for testing in other PCAd.3 - drive is actually working (not working - plugged) as a master alone - tested as a slave - still nothingAd.4 - i dont try this yet, but i will if the firmware changes wont work...
And about P.S - there is a problem - i try to do it, but the .bin isnt recognised by the FWLoadeX 3.0. This .bin only match to oryginal flashing sw that link to i've put before - but this one can only flash 4164B drive, and mine is now recognised as a 4166 one...
... I'm loosing hope:/
Well I think your drive is dead.4- could be the last solution.
OK. If you really need to flash back, remember that you only need to have GWA-4164B in the id-string before you can apply the GWA-4164B firmware you've found. A way to do this could be to hex-edit the 4166 1.01 firmware (.bin) and change the id string to GWA-4164B (and eventually the firmware number, that could be more difficult if you don't remember it...) - could be more than one string to modify - save this modified .bin and flash it with the 1.01 4166 flasher. There is no checksum in the licked 4166 1.01 firmware, so I think it's possible.
There is no need to patch the firmware. Just take a flasher that does not check the drive id.
Well today I'm gonna try to clean the lens - and i think I'm gonna leave this firmware - my recorder has no warranty (I've bought it in UK, and I live in Poland) - so there is no need to change firmware to 4164B back if it will not help in fixing drive. I will post the results of cleaning later. Thanks for trying to help me.
Update...Well it works - almost...This is what i've done:1. Edited .bin like ItalianJob told to - thanks man, I owe You 2. Flashed it with edited 4166B FW (it becomes recognised as a 4164B 1.01)3. Made a flashing autostarting floppy with 1.10 FW4. It won't works - drive missmatch5. So i exracted .rar archive and i get the .bin from there (4164B 1.10 original FW - i posted link before)6. I flash drive with FWLoadeX 3.07. And voila - it started to read and burn DVD - still wont recognise CD, but who cares
I'm out of ideas of how to force drive to read CD's - i remember how i made my very first computer to read CD's one day - i just opened it and turn some small variable resistor built-in into laser module - it started to work. I think that i changed weave lenght than, but it helped, and i sold that PC with working CD drive;]
Anyone ever opened this kind of recorder - maby there is var. resistor responsible to lengh of reading weave?
Hi, I'm new around here too!I've bought GSA-4163B DVD burner. It burns single layer discs very well but won't recognise double layer ones. I've tried Verbatin and Mirror discs. Could anyone suggest a solution please?Thank you~Sue~
Have you also read the thread title ?
Very dodgy thing to do
thanks because i hate all lg dvd and cd rw and cd readers
How lame is that...?
