If you are talking about this, then I doubt it is the cause. The region code only affects the playback of DVD movie discs. It has nothing to do with CDs at all.

Unfortunately, I don’t know what is causing your problems.

#3

What does that mean???

Is it external???

#4

It is a slim drive. It’s new and it doesn’t work at all. I can’t read anything. I don’t know what seems to be the cause, I was expecting you to tell me since you’re experts. Pliz let me know if u need more information so u can help me out with this.

Best Regards

P.S. My main concern is this:
STATUS : Not Set

#5

That has nothing to do with issues you mention and is it internal or external??? Ehhhhh.

Remove the s/n.

#6

Yes, the unit is internal. Maybe this picture would make it clearer.

I’ve already set the region to 4. But it doesn’t work anyway. I can neither read nor write.

Please Help

Then it has the wrong firmware for your laptop (setup).

If you set a region it almost certainly had to read a disc.

You are using something like Nero to burn the discs right?

And something like Power DVD to play them?

Given you can see it with DiscInfo it’s almost certainly a software issue.

Can you run Nero’s CD Speed utility on DVD-ROM and CD-ROM disc.

Define what you mean by not reading, can you see the drive in Explorer does it give you a drive letter, what happens if you put an Audio-CD in?
