Guideline for choosing burn speed

Is there a guideline to use when choosing the burn speed?

For a x16 or x8 what would be really safe to use?

At the moment I use x2.4 but would like to go faster without any impact on quality.

I just buy any old disc when I see a bargain:o.

Thanks,
Ian

The speed which give best results in most cases are

[ul][li]8x on 16x media
[/li][li]6x or 8x on 8x media[/ul]
[/li]
For few batches 12x can be a little better on 16x media

Burning any slower like 2.4x on 16x media will only get you worse results. See this thread: click

Cheers, Womi.

I will normally take any new media and do a test burn at different speeds to see what scans the best on my particular burner … I found that my burner ( a liteOn ) likes to burn 16x verbz at 12x but with 16x sony or maxell media it likes 8x burns… So rule of thumb will depend on the media/burner combo … at least this is what I have found through my limited experiences anyways

A general rule of thumb is that is pretty fool proof: 50-80% of max burn speed supported by the disc.
