Gsa-H55n problems?

[qanda]This thread is about the LG GSA-H55. Click here to see full specs[/qanda]Hey guys, I’m new here and need help…
My GSA-H55N has suddenly became retarded on me and I dont quite understand why. It used to rip everything, then suddenly quit burning cds, then dual layers, and now dvds all together…
I’ve tried updating the driver, flashing new firmware, and still nothing. In fact, when I put a blank DL in it, IMgburn is telling me the disc is not empty…
Im at a loss for words, if anyone can help it would be greatly appreciated. Thnx

It may simply have died. Incremental failures as you describe would lead me to believe that.

You can check DMA on this drive (look in my signature for Womble’s guide), but I doubt it will help.

If you want a direct replacement, with an IDE interface, you might look for a Sony Optiarc 7200a if you can find one, but they are getting hard to find at reputable dealers. An alternative that would be easier to find would be the Samsung SH-S222A.

If your computer can take SATA interface drives, you should look at the Optiarc 7240s:

all channels are set to DMA if available, so I guess i have to safely assume it died? No other ideas?

Kerry’s prob. right.
You might try cleaning the lense as a last-ditch effort.
I’d suggest opening it up & using lense cleaner as opposed to a “cleaning disc”.
