GSA-5163 external P-CAV 16x DVD writer

The first external P-CAV 16x DVD writer in the world, GSA-5163D is also coming. With some luck, I might be able to post some initial test results. Don’t ask me how I might be able to do that.

GSA-5163D is just an external model of GSA-4163B which supports 8x DVD+RW, 6x DVD-RW, 16x DVD+R P-CAV, 16x DVD-R P-CAV, 4x DVD+R SL, and so on. I’m not sure whether GSA-5160D and GSA-5163D also have both IEEE 1394 and USB 2.0 connectors like GSA-5120D, but we’ll know it pretty soon.

I received the drive.

Nero CD-Speed 3.55

When I click the “bitsetting” there, DVD+R (SL) and DVD+R DL are activated but not DVD+RW.

I’ll try to post as much as possible but I first need to make sure what I can do with this drive (like the NDA and buying some test-purpose media since I have only one or two more MCC004 and no other 16x media.)

I want 17x max CAV and 4:59 writing time. :iagree:

First failed disc (Test disc #016 Azul)

This is the one I reported at the Media forum several weeks ago to be fake Verbatim MCC003.

Trasfer Rate test result at max read speed in GSA-4120B@4160B A302 after burned in GSA-5163D with unknown firmware. GSA-4120B/4160B are usually good at reading poor disks.

Testing Pioneer DVR-108 1.18 firmware as well and also DVD-RAM and CD-R. Difficult to keep track of the tests and image files between my daughter and the two computers. I should have bought four 20-inch LCD monitors long ago (to make my desktop just like that of eleewhm.)

All above are Nero CD-Speed 3.55 Create Data Disc tests. Though a lot more media will be tested using CD-Speed 3.55 as best as possible, some DVD-Video in Nero Burning Rom v6.6.0.3 will be also included for DVD-Video standalone player playback tests and practical back-ups of individual users.

I’m also testing GSA-4120B@4160B A302, Pioneer DVR-108 with latest official firmware 1.18 and BenQ DW1620 with official firmware versions like B79K, B79M, B79P, B79S, etc. for comparison.

I thought BenQ EW1621 is the first?
Or BenQ 1620A with external enclosure and 3507 Prolific chipset? :stuck_out_tongue:

Are they P-CAV at 16x?
