GSA-4160B DVD+R DL problem

Hi all, first post

I’m having a problem getting my LG GSA-4160B to record Ricoh DVD+R DL discs. The problem being that I can’t get Nero to even start burning!

It stops the burn with ‘Unspecified Recorder Error’ then ‘Could not perform start of Disc-at-once’ and ejects the disc.

The LG is recording CDs and single layer DVDs fine - it just won’t touch these DL discs.

DVD Identifier is showing the following:

Hello detorquemada and welcome to the forum.

The Ricoh discs you are trying to use are 8x DVD+R DL discs. The GSA-4160B can only handle 2.4x DVD+R DL discs. This is why you cannot burn those discs. Try again with 2.4x DVD+R DL discs (these often come with no speed marking on the casings).

I’d advise you to get Verbatim 2.4x DVD+R DL discs rather than Ricoh ones as only a handful of drives can handle Ricoh DVD+R DL discs properly. Verbatim DVD+R DL discs, on the other hand, are almost universally compatible with most drives. Just get one disc first to try.
