Great Quality (GQ) DVD Media - 50-pack - $7.00 - Fry's Electronics

At one time, the 16x GQ DVDs available at Fry’s Electronics were mostly Sony media, manufactured by Lead Data in Taiwan. However, recently, we’ve been informed that GQ, like other in-house brands, has switched to MIC media with fake MCC codes.

If you can find any spindles that are MIT, then you should have something good. Here are examples of how the Lead Data-made Sonys burned:

Lucky you, you got Sony!

Nice burns!

Yo-

Buying any GQ medias - is kinda like getting a wife at a whorehouse - ya never know what your gonna get-eh!!

That was from back in January (notice the date on the scans). I haven’t bought any recently, hence my point about the need to specifically search for any remaining MIT spindles.

:disagree:

That only applied to the pre-16x GQ media. Once they hit 16x, it was almost all Sony for at least two years. Only recently did it change to something else.

Garbage…

Yesterday, Friday, 10-3-2008, I was by Frys and picked up a 100 spindle of GQ DVD+R for $14. They ID as MCC004, but they are definitely NOT garbage. Here is a scan of a 12x burn on NEC 7200S.

Interesting HenryNettles, what are the hub codes?

I do not see any hub codes. Granted, my old eyes aren’t what they used to be, but I don’t believe there are any.

I need to burn some more of these, and see if the quality holds up as I move down the spindle.

Well, somebody had to make them. I’ve never seen any media that didn’t have some numbers somewhere on the hub.

Looks like these are back down to $14/100 again:

well i dont know much about there dvd media but i can say that after using there CD-RW media a while ago that overall i give em the thumbs down as there pretty much the only discs i used that actually died on me after negligible use… i still have some of the discs but a good half-ish of them died and i pitched em in trash can.
