Goodbye, Pioneer DVR-115D and DVR-215D

I’m afraid I have to announce…sniff…that the Pioneer DVR-115D and DVR-215D have been deactivated on the NewEgg web site.

They’re officially discontinued.

The DVR-115D contained in the retail DVR-1910 (blue box), and the DVR-215D contained in the retail DVR-2910 (grey box), will be replaced with the DVR-116D and DVR-216D, respectively.

Grab one while you still can. Once retailers run out, that’s it (except for eBay, of course).

And in case you’re wondering, availability of a computer product at NewEgg is usually a good indicator of general channel availability. NewEgg leads and others start to follow.

Not everyone agrees. :disagree:

^^^^ no major difference right ?

Ah that sucks. The 115D is an excellent drive. Luckily, SVP here in the UK still have the 115D, the 215, and the 215D in stock

I’ve not even seen the 116 listed in ANY retailer over here as yet. Looking at the variance in the scans in its dedicated thread, I think I’d give this one a miss at the present time.

Nor me, I was expecting to find one while looking for the x15 ones at SVP for my previous post.

And I’d agree, I’ll be sticking with my good ol’ 115D for the moment

I would agree that my 115D is often better than my 216 on many MIDs. (unfortunately, Pioneer does not sell the 116 in Australia)

The 115 & 215 have been deactivated from Newegg for over a week now. If you want the retail versions which also have LS then just buy them from Best Buy or Fry’s Electronics but the prices are a bit steep.

:disagree:

The version with LS (in the red box) is NOT a 115/215. It’s a 113, which is a rebadged ASUS.

#11

yeah true Pioneers do not have Lightscribe.

Labelflash yes.

Pioneer DVR-216 is $29.99 shipped today at Newegg:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16827129032

(according to a thread over at Silent PC Review, it is supposed to be noticeably quieter than already quiet DVR-215)

#13

Lite-on drives just as good IMO and cheaper. Much easier to do bitsetting. Just run a simple utility. The Pioneer drives sure are quiet though.

#14

Looks like for some reason pioneer drives with odd numbers are better such as 107, 111, 115. interesting

I dunno about that because I had 2 107 drives that crapped out in 6 months.

#16

My 112 is as good as 215.

#17

To be honest, my 111 still run strong.

All 3 of my 111’s are still burning great as well!

What about the 109?

Newegg isn’t the only source for PC hardware. Here’s the Pioneer 115D at Meritline for only $27.99…in stock. I don’t know what the shipping costs are, but maybe you can get free shipping if you wait.

I’m also a fan of Pioneer drives (the 115D is my 3rd). Plextor is good too, but it’s not worth the premium that Plextor puts on their drives, even the rebadged ones.
